We are especially excited to share “Stream-It Speculative Africa,” a virtual variation of the short film series curated by author Namwali Serpell. Wex film curator, Chris Stults, adapted the series into an online experience, with bonus material available for viewing.
Serpell, who recently received the Windham Campbell Prize for her fiction, said about “Speculative Africa,” that the series “encompasses genres from Afrofuturism to surrealism to zombie flick; these films bend representation. They warp both the reality effect of the camera and the demand to represent the ‘real’ Africa—or its stereotyped mythology…”
Check out the films I Am Not A Witch, Atlantics, Pumzi, Crumbs, and Afronauts, plus bonus material, at https://www.wexarts.org/read-watch-listen/stream-it-speculative-africa.
