This weekend, opens the first Columbus Black International Film Festival, in central Ohio, highlighting black filmmakers, both locally and nationally. The festival was created and organized by Cristyn Steward, also a filmmaker, who some of you may remember from meeting earlier this spring during the Wex screenings of Raoul Peck’s film, I Am Not Your Negro. The festival opens Friday, August 4, at the Wexner Center for the Arts, featuring keynote speaker, Mark Cummings Sr., and includes two short films, Heroes of Color: The Harlem Hellfighters (David Heredia) and Dr. Race: Practicing Medicine While Black (Micah Autry), and film-length film, Holy Hustle (Mark Cummings Sr.).
